Super Eagles' Interim Coach Augustine Eguavoen Equates Libya Clash to 'World Cup Final' as Nigeria Gears up for Crucial AFCON Qualifiers
Augustine Eguavoen, the interim coach of the Super Eagles, has emphasized the critical importance of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya, comparing the matches to a "World Cup" final in terms of significance. The Nigerian national team, who are three-time champions of Africa, are gearing up to face the Libyan side in a double-header that promises to be a tough test.
In a matchday three encounter scheduled to take place at the renowned Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo next week Friday, the Super Eagles will square off against the Mediterranean Knights. Eguavoen, speaking to Brila FM, emphasized the need for a focused and determined approach, highlighting the importance of taking each game seriously. "We play against Libya back-to-back, it will be the same approach that we had for the previous games, but it’s a game at a time, so game 3 (against Libya) is a World Cup final," he stated, underlining the high-stakes nature of the upcoming fixtures.
