Meta Launches Content Monetization Program to Boost Earnings for Facebook Creators

Meta has unveiled its Content Monetization beta program for Facebook, which aims to help content creators earn more money. This new initiative, introduced on Wednesday, October 2, combines three key ways for creators to make money: In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and the Performance bonus. With this program, creators can now monetize a wider range of content types such as Reels, long videos, photos, and text posts.

The goal of this program is to streamline Facebook's existing monetization options and give creators a simpler way to earn money from various content formats. Previously, only a third of creators were able to earn from more than one Facebook-funded program due to different criteria and availability.

Since 2017, over four million creators have earned money on Facebook, receiving over $2 billion in payouts just last year. Facebook is proud of how its monetization programs have supported creators, but acknowledges that challenges like eligibility requirements and differing sign-up processes have made it hard for some creators to fully benefit. Data shows that currently, only a third of monetizing creators on Facebook earn from more than one program.

Earnings have significantly increased from Reels and short videos, with payouts growing by more than 80% in the last year. The Content Monetization beta program simplifies the process by allowing creators to earn from various content formats through a single program, providing easy-to-understand insights for tracking progress and keeping a payout structure based on performance.

Facebook has already started sending out invitations to one million creators who are already earning money on the platform, and open enrollment is expected by 2025. Creators interested in early access can sign up through the monetization tab in the Professional dashboard or Meta Business Suite. This move aims to support Facebook's creator community by making it simpler and more rewarding for them to monetize their content.
