Stepmother Admits to Poisoning 13-Year-Old Stepdaughter in Cameroon: Community Outraged
A woman known as Catherine, aged 38, has been taken into custody at Buea Central Prison for allegedly admitting to poisoning her 13-year-old stepdaughter. The woman explained to the Limbe 1 Gendarmerie brigade that she had spiked her stepdaughter's meal with a poisonous substance called Mocap. Catherine cited mounting tensions between herself and her husband, worsened by the behavior of the young girl, as the motive behind the poisoning.
She expressed remorse for her actions, attributing them to the influence of the devil. Catherine asked for forgiveness from the authorities. The disturbing incident came to light when the landlord, Job Bekondo, found the girl in a state of distress, writhing on the ground with foam emanating from her mouth. Job promptly sought help from neighbors and rushed the girl to the hospital, where she received urgent medical attention and was saved.
The shocking event has provoked outrage within the Towe quarters community in Livanda village, Limbe 1 subdivision. Many residents have called on the local traditional council to exile Catherine from the community, deeming her a dangerous individual unworthy of residing among them.
