Russian President, Vladimir Putin visits Mongolia despite international warrant for his arrest

Russian President Vladimir Putin has traveled to Mongolia for an official visit where he is set to meet with Mongolian leader Ukhnaa Khurelsukh.

This visit is notably Putin's first to a country that is a member of the International Criminal Court, which previously issued an arrest warrant against him around 18 months ago over allegations of war crimes in Ukraine.

The Ukraine government has urged Mongolia to detain Putin and surrender him to the Hague-based court. Members of the International Criminal Court are generally required to detain individuals against whom arrest warrants have been issued, although the court lacks the means to directly enforce these orders.

The ICC has specifically accused Putin of involvement in the kidnapping of children from Ukraine during the prolonged conflict that has lasted for over two and a half years.

Despite these serious allegations, Putin is scheduled to join the Mongolian leader in attending a special event commemorating the joint victory of Soviet and Mongolian forces over the Japanese army in Manchuria back in 1939.
