Limbe City Mayor Clashes with Journalist over Press Freedom: A Tense Encounter Sparks Debate on Accountability

  During a public meeting, Limbe City Mayor Paul Efome Ngalle scolded journalist Raymond Njume Njikang, asking him to stop speaking. 

The Mayor accused the journalist of damaging the reputation of the City Council and warned of consequences unless he apologized in writing. Ngalle criticized the journalist, stating that his actions were unwarranted and disrespectful. 

The Mayor's outburst highlighted tensions between the local government and the media, reflecting a broader issue of freedom of the press and accountability in the region.

In my opinion, I think it's  not right for the mayor to intimidate journalists for highlighting issues with the city council's work. Rather than resorting to threats, the mayor should address the concerns raised by journalists and work towards making necessary improvements in the council's operations.

 Open communication, transparency, and constructive dialogue are key to building a better relationship between the council and the media. It is important for public officials to listen to criticism and use it as an opportunity to enhance their performance for the benefit of the community they serve.
