Police foil bandits' attack, kill two and rescue five kidnapped victims in Katsina
The Katsina State Police Force has successfully thwarted two bandit attacks and rescued five individuals who were kidnapped.
The spokesperson for the force, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, revealed this in a statement released on Monday, August 26, stating that two bandits were eliminated during the operation.
As per the Public Relations Officer, the force received a distress call on Sunday regarding a bandit assault on Layin Minister Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
"On the 25th of August 2024, at approximately 1000 hrs, a distress signal was received at the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters concerning a bandit attack at Layin Minister Village in Malumfashi LGA, resulting in the abduction of five individuals," the statement detailed.
"After receiving the report, officers were promptly mobilised and sent to the location. Upon detecting the police presence, the criminals fired at the officers, who bravely retaliated."
All the abducted individuals were successfully rescued unharmed as the attackers yielded to the superior firepower of the officers and fled with gunshot wounds of varying severity.
"On the same day, around 1740 hrs, another distress signal was received at the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters reporting that a group of suspected armed bandits on twelve motorcycles, armed with dangerous weapons, were attacking Marabar Kankara village in Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State," the spokesperson continued.
"Upon receiving the information, the Malumfashi DPO swiftly mobilised security forces who promptly responded to the scene and bravely confronted the criminals in a fierce gun battle, successfully thwarting the assault."
During the operation, two suspected armed bandits were neutralised, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as an investigation is underway.
Extolling the exceptional bravery exhibited by the officers, the Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Aliyu Musa, reiterated the force's commitment to ensuring enhanced security in the state.
